Theology and Knowing God

Theology and Knowing God

There is a funny line in one of our family movies. It goes like this, "I feel like a paleontologist who has been studying dinosaurs his whole life and finally gets to meet one!"

On Wednesday evenings, we have introduced our time with passages of Scripture that show the Christian life to be two-pronged.

"Keep a close watch on your life and doctrine." 1 Timothy 4:16

"We shared not only the gospel, but our lives as well." 1 Thessalonians 2:8

What we know about God forms our doctrinal convictions, but the knowledge of God according to his Word is also perfectly connected to what we know about God through relationship with him. Our evangelism, our prayers, our good works, our life in community are all informed by our relationship with God. How he has related to us informs how we relate to others. For example:

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. - Eph 4:24

Although I have personally been geeking out about our study in Biblical Theology this semester, I have also been reminded that careful handling of the Scripture is meant for a more confident and intimate joy in the Lord.

May what you know of the Lord, according to the Scriptures, fuel your love for him. Thank you for joining me in this pursuit.
