For One Another

For One Another

A hinge connects two sides and allows movement between them. In the same way, the Ten Commandments hinge between love for God and love for others.

The first four commands anchor us in love and worship for our Creator and Deliverer. The remaining six guide how God’s people are to live in loving relationship with one another. These commands are as meaningful today as they were in Exodus 20—they form the foundation of a moral society and describe what a true covenant community looks like.

Jesus summarized the entire law this way in Matthew 22:37–40:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are made righteous by His perfect obedience. Though we fail to keep God’s law perfectly, we are still called into deep relationship with Him and with one another.

Over the next six weeks, we’ll study the final six commandments and see how Jesus makes them a living reality in our church life. These messages will challenge us to see our relationships through God’s eyes and to grow in love, unity, and holiness together.

RIC is in a good place and growing, and I’m praying for continued spiritual growth as we live for His glory in Rome and for the good of His church.

I’m praying for you and your part in this body,

Loren
