Retreat
Abiding in the love of God can be challenging as life swirls around us. Our attention is pulled in every direction from waking to sleeping. Media alone moves us to pick up our phones or devices as soon as we wake, turn the TV on, play music, listen to the news, and move through the day with constant information or entertainment inputs filling our ears, eyes, minds, and hearts. Abiding is not just carrying the label, "Loved by God," but knowing, enjoying, and truly resting in his love. Jesus tells us..
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.” - John 15:9
This might be step one of living as a disciple of Jesus, just resting/abiding/being loved by Jesus in an acknowledged and participatory way.
How are you doing these days at abiding in the love of Jesus?
Notice the love of Jesus is the love of the Father. Jesus' abiding love is a spreading love that is to be known and enjoyed corporately, with others. He says a few verses down...
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." - John 14:12
Not only is our love for one another meant to be a reflection of Jesus' love for us individually, loving each other Jesus' way is a command.
Rest in his Love.
Love others with Jesus' love.
RIC will retreat next week for three days of resting in the Father's love for us. There will be food, fun, and family time, but the real gift will be abiding in the love of God with one another. That is something to look forward to. That is the reason to sign up and join us next week.
See you there,
Pastor Loren
