One Verse Gospel

One Verse

Gospel

Let's be honest.  The Bible is a really big, long book to read.

Is there one verse in the Bible that encapsulates the gospel?

Now and then, you may be asked what you believe about God, Jesus, the church, and the Bible.  Sometimes you may feel compelled to share your faith with another person.  Always, we are to be ready to give a defense for the hope that we have in Jesus (1 Peter 3:15).  Maybe, you are wondering what the gospel is.  I carry this little, credit card-sized graphic in my wallet for short opportunities to tell someone about Jesus.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 6:23

Between God and us is an impassable gap (death).  This is the consequence (wages) of our rebellion against God's sovereign authority over our lives (sin).  God loved sinful man so much that he gave as a gift, his Son Jesus Christ, to die the death we deserved.  Through belief in Jesus, we can cross the impassable gap of death and return to our Maker who loves us.

That's it.  Simple, eternal truth that makes an eternal difference.

  • Do you believe this?

  • Have you ever used this passage to share the gospel with someone?

  • Who could you share this with?

With you all in this faith,
Loren
