AT THE DOOR
At The Door
Advent means "coming." Christmas is about Jesus coming.
When we have guests over, there is an all-family push to have the house ready for guests. Toys and laundry stowed away. Table cleared for the meal. Clutter put in its place.
Imagine a guest is coming to your home. For some of you, it would be a nightmare to have a guest knocking on your door when you have not had time to tidy up. Or, your small children have discovered the dirt in the potted plant, or (and) the joy of flour, and it has found its way into every corner. The horror.
How might this change if the presence of the guest on the other side of the door were Jesus?
Jesus tells the church in Laodicea that he is standing at the door, knocking. This passage is often used in evangelism to urge a sinner to yield his or her heart to the presence of the Savior. But in Revelation 3:20, Jesus is speaking to a church, not an unbeliever. I think this means that Jesus intends for the church to live every moment as one in which Jesus is present and to believe that fellowship with Him will make all the difference in their spiritual temperature (3:15).
Rome International Church family, Jesus is present, and he would fellowship with us. Now. This Advent season, and at all times. What would it look like for us to open the door to him in every gathering, every endeavor, and every circumstance?
Come, Lord Jesus!
