NEW ELDERS

New Elders

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you—  Titus 1:5

Rome International Church has appointed two new elders.  Bruce Nherrera and Jeff Rinehart. For the past several months, they, along with a few other RIC men, have been walking through a leadership training focused on God's design of eldership in the local church.  This has been a sweet time of growth for all those involved. Having come to its conclusion, it was time to put forward two men for the task.

RIC's doctrinal statement says:

  • According to the example and instruction of Scripture, a plurality of elders is to govern the church. The elders are to seek the mind of Christ, who is the Head of the Church, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. They must be able to exhort the church in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict the truth. (Acts 6:1-6; Gal 6:1; 1 Thess 5:12; 2 Thess 3:14-15; Titus 1:9; Heb 13:7, 17; 1 Peter 5:2-3)

Jesus remains the founder and head of his church; the groom of his bride. Until the marriage supper of the Lamb, the local church is to organize itself around the word of God preached, taught, defended, and obeyed. God has seen fit to do this through his people, some of whom are set apart as shepherds to care for the flock. The author of Hebrews describes how we are to relate to these men:

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. - Hebrews 13:17

Join us in thanking God for these men and be in prayer for Bruce and Jeff.

Together for God's Kingdom,

Loren
