Know, Believe, Understand

Know, Believe, Understand

I am reading through Isaiah and have arrived at chapters forty and onward.  These chapters really could be called "The Gospel According to the Prophet Isaiah."  There are the foreshadowed prophetic words of John the Baptist, the eternal Word, and the witnesses of the good news, all in the first ten verses of chapter 40.  God repeatedly assures his chosen people that he will never leave them but be their strength and strong support (41:10).  Deep hope is described for the hurting and wounded soul (42:3).  God describes the intended relationship between himself and mankind; he the maker, man the sinner, he the redeemer, man the believer.  These descriptions repeat over and over in poetic beauty that grips the soul with wonder and fills it with glorious joy!

"You are my witnesses," declares the Lord,

"and my servant whom I have chosen,

that you may know and believe me

and understand that I am he.

Isaiah 43:10

If you have heard the witness of God's great love for you, that he has blotted out your sins (43:25, 44:22), you believe that he is the only savior (43:11), then may your understanding of God's magnificent supremacy over your salvation burst into exultant praise of his name (43:21).

For the joy of your soul,
