Your Purpose Will Be Fulfilled
It was a thrilling moment. Conditions were just right. The family gathered around 'the problem' in despair. "How could this be fixed?" asked the kids. "How much would it cost to pay a professional?" your wife inquired. But you, Dad, just so happened to have the right tool for this moment to fix the problem. It wasn't just any tool, either. It was a discount item on a back shelf in a store you do not usually frequent. At the time, filled with the spirit of prophecy, you said to yourself and your wife, "I might need this one day!" And that day finally came. Never mind if it was years (maybe decades) later. It was a thrilling moment!
Can I encourage you? You are not a tool that God picked up along the way and kept in a toolbag for that perfect moment. When he was deep in a cave running for his life, David may have felt a bit like that. Anointed to be king of Israel, the present king was trying to kill him. In that cave, he prayed,
I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
You will never be king of Israel. Probably not the king of anything. Actually, David foreshadows a king who will come from heaven to fix your problem, your most significant problem. He arrived at the perfect time to undo the damage of sin to your heart and to mend your relationship with God. David says next,
He will send from heaven and save me.
In Jesus Christ, your purpose will be fulfilled. Although I don't know the particulars of how that will happen for you, I do know that your life is meant to bring God maximum glory. This is why David prays twice in this Psalm,
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
May this be your heart's cry! Knowing that God (not you) is fulfilling his purpose for you will stabilize you. Set your hope on this. Set your eyes on seeking his glory.
Praying for your joy in Christ,
Loren
