True repentance
True Repentance
When you became a Christian, you repented of your sin and trusted in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Sin continues to be a part of your life, but do you practice repentance and trusting Jesus as your Lord and Savior now? It can be tough to confess your sin after being a Christian, especially the longer you have assumed that identity. However, in my observation, Christians who stop practicing repentance and faith in Jesus become experts in denial and pride. They downplay their sin and overestimate their own strength.
Sadly, this is what happens to high-profile Christian leaders, even the most Bible-ly teaching ones. They will deny or downplay their sin and elevate their "spiritual" strength to mean that they don't need Jesus or the gracious accountability of other believers.
Your pastor desires to be an old past one day. Repentance and faith are something I want to make standard practice in my life, your life, and our lives as church members. After all, where else can you go to, but a local body of believers who are expressly committed to one another's growth in God?
On Sunday, I called us to three steps that are part of true repentance:
An end to excuses.
A movement towards God.
A movement that results in action.
Which brother/sister in Christ will you bring into your life that can walk with you in these three steps?
For your joy in the faith,
Loren
