Put What Remained Into Order...
By God's grace and in his timing, Rome International Church has entered a season that requires biblical elders. For several years, I have served as the only elder at RIC while praying for God to raise up godly men who might serve alongside me. Over the past two years we have watched as the Lord has led men, women and families to us who desire to grow in their knowledge and love of the Lord. With the growing number of disciples, the need for leadership has increased.
Paul writes to his disciple, Titus, whom he left in Crete to put what remained into order (Titus 1:5). The gospel was being believed, new believers were regularly gathering in the towns on that island. Crucial to the ongoing maturity of those new churches were godly, male servants who would embody, hold firm to, and defend healthy doctrine (1:6-9).
RIC was founded on a firm commitment to a plurality of elders knowing that it is both biblical and therefore, essential for the health of the growing church. Paul begins his description of a qualified elder by telling Timothy that if anyone aspires to the role of overseer... Aspiration is the first mark. Already, I've been encouraged that one of our own has been reading and preparing for the past nine months prayerfully considering the call of God to elder.
Would you pray for our church as we prayerfully consider the Lord's call on the lives of a couple of our men?
You can read about elders in the following passages: 1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 20:18-35; 1 Timothy 5:17-22; 1 Peter 5:1-5
For the glory of God and the good of His church,
